A portrait of young Belle and her mother. This will be on display in Maurice’s cottage as part of New Fantasyland!
would you look at that she got her love of books from her MOM and I’m actually crying right now I’m crying I never even thought about Belle and her mom, she cares about her dad so much, but you’ve got to think about their incomplete family…
I can just imagine Belle’s mom tucking her in to bed, reading her stories and telling her adventures and everything and gosh I’m honestly, honestly crying over this I LOVE BELLE SO MUCH.

Lately, it’s been scorchingly hot enough to deter guests from autograph lines, giving characters a few minutes to play if their line ends early. A few days ago, for example, I was working Fish ‘n’ Chips in UK and Alice finished her line. She danced to British Revolution’s “Bohemian Rhapsody” by herself and with this random old guy (and me, from afar) before talking to the Fish ‘n’ Chips workers.
Today, I was in France for restrooms, which is my favorite spot to character watch; we have Belle, Beast, Aurora, AND Marie, for heavens sake.I was standing with a few other custodians at the cast entrance when we noticed Belle and Beast finished their lines. We moved to let them pass, shocked when instead they walked over to the crepe and ice-cream stand. Unfortunately, I was too far away to catch any words exchanged, but they’re excellent at miming. ;)
Belle was chatting with the boys in the stand while Beast read over the menu, eventually getting Belle’s attention and pointing frantically to something on the menu. He then began stroking the menu like it was His Precious, and she laughed and turned to the guys in the stand again, pointing at the menu. She started to look in her basket, like she was looking for money, and of course all Belle had was her book. So she pulls that out, opening it up and showing it to the guys in the stand.
Unfortunately for Beast, books don’t buy ice cream, so she turned to Beast and sadly put her hand on his shoulder, saying something. IMMEDIATELY, he slumped and shrunk about a foot, stomping away from the ice cream place dejectedly. Belle rubbed his back, saying something (probably assuring him they’d get ice cream later) and walked past us to go home. On the way, they passed Marie who wondered why Beast was so sad. Belle explained, and she threw her hands up on her face in sympathy. Beast just shrugged and left with Belle.
If you think I don’t work in the best location in the world, you’re wrong.

Since everyone seemed to really like my previous post on Vermeer’s Girl with the Pearl Earrings in Disney’s Beauty and the Beast, here is another Easter Egg I found.
Left: Close-up Screen cap from Disney’s Beauty and the Beast (1991)
Right: Frans Hals, The Laughing Cavalier, 1624
I’m thinking the Beast had a thing for Dutch paintings..?Brilliant.
Disney’s reused animation.
